Time for Quiltmaker's 100 Blocks, Volume 11

Black-Eyed Susan
Oh, what a beautiful morning!  Oh, what a beautiful day!  It's spring & what could be better -- unless it's a new issue of Quiltmaker's 100 Blocks!  We are up to Volume 11 & 1100 total blocks! Can you believe it!

Again, we are excited to have a block to show you - Black-Eyed Susan! You'll find it on page 33 with some awesome Andover Fabrics by Jo Morton.  I wouldn't say this is a block for beginners, but it is worth the extra effort to give it a try.

The flowers are wool & appliqued by machine; however, you gals who like to do the wool handwork could stitch the black-eyed susan very easily.  I like how the mottled look of the orange wool gives the block added depth.

I also think that you could do the center flower with a raggedy frayed edge & it would be a fantastic look; maybe do a whole quilt in flannels & fray out all the susans!

Are you ready for some prizes??  Well, Quiltmaker's will send out a free copy to a winner simply by making a comment here today.  Their copy will come to the winner within a few weeks.  Be sure & share your email address here so I can contact you for your mailing address.

I am also giving free copies to two readers who like my facebook page Clothesline Quilts today.  Leave a comment  & let me know that you liked my page & then you will have to share your email address here so I can contact you for your mailing address.

And don't forget to visit all the amazing designers on the tour through Friday & follow directions for prizes & freebies!  Have fun!

An Awesome Experience! The Winners are . . .

Wow, what a successful blog tour with Quiltmaker's 100 Blocks!  We truly enjoyed all your positive comments & suggestions!

Sharon plans to write the pattern for the tablerunner & perhaps a quilt, too, since the block was so popular.  Many of you commented on the possibilities for the block, such as sashing it or setting it straight opposed to on-point.  So keep checking back to see when it will be available.

We'd also love to see your blocks in a project, so email pictures to us at evonnecook@clotheslinequilts.com.   Here you see a Diamonds Are Forever block by one of our readers Abigail who blogs at abyquilts.wordpress.com.  Thanks so much, Aby; it's beautiful!

We have picked our winners:

Debbie will receive a free magazine from Quiltmaker.  Congratulations, Debbie!

Fat Quarter bundles were won by:  Ellee, Sarah, Deborah DeBerry, & Jodi.  Emails have been sent to you; please return your mailing address to me as soon as possible.  Congratulations!

We appreciate all of your participation!  Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!

Quiltmakers 100 Blocks - Volume 10

Diamonds Are Forever by Sharon Work
Today is our day to shine!  And to show Sharon's new block "Diamonds Are Forever" !!

You'll find Diamonds Are Forever, Block #999 on page 68 in Volume 10 of Quiltmaker's 100 Blocks .  Don't wait too long to purchase your copy; they do sell out quickly.

Sharon designed with Jo Morton's Amelia fabrics & the Dovetail Batiks II.  Love that black & coral floral; it really makes a statement.

I think it deserves mention that this is the first attempt by Sharon to design a block for 100 Blocks & her block was chosen.  Very exciting for her & me, too, to have her experience & help with Clothesline Quilts pattern company. I appreciate you, Sharon!

So Sharon went on to develop this block into a tablerunner & you can see it on page 10 of the Volume 10 magazine.  She set 3 blocks on point & added pieced setting triangles.  I really like it because you really can't tell where the blocks stop & start.  I like it when you have to search for the block in a quilt & it really works nicely in this tablerunner.

Then I put the block into EQ & played with it so you can see the difference in the two tablerunners.

Now what do you think??

Make a comment below & get a chance to win prizes like magazines & fat quarters.  I am having fun putting some fat quarter bundles of Jo Morton's fabrics together & you could win one of those.  So leave your comment before midnight tonight & sign up to follow our blog.  You can also go to the website Clothesline Quilts  & sign up for the newsletter!  We'd love to have you join us!

A Whirlwind of Christmas & on to the New Year !

Jordyn Marie Jensen - 6 mos. old
I hope you have all enjoyed many celebrations with family & friends over this holiday season.  I know we have celebrated many times over by the tightness around my middle that I'm feeling today.  Anyway, it was all worth it !

We had our first great-grandchild Jordyn Marie here from Montana to help with the merryness.  Such a good happy baby !

Now we are on to 2013 -  & it's bound to be a great year !

Vinyl see-through bags
I have been enjoying this week between holidays - my own Sit 'n Sew in my studio here in the basement every day.  I didn't have to pack up my machine or fabric or anything - just come down here every morning & cut & sew . . . cut & sew.  I've had a ball sewing these little bags with vinyl fronts so you can see what's in the bag.  I really have to say though that I had big problems figuring one of the patterns out during the first sewing . . . directions for something like this are not good unless there are enough pictures or illustrations.  But then, after one was made, the sewing went quickly to do more.

Volume 6
And, of course, while sewing, I've been cleaning up my sewing space.  Isn't that what always happens when you start to take some sewing time for yourself.  Anyway, in the process I found 2 of the Volume 6 Quiltmaker's 100 Blocks magazines that were not accepted by the quilters whose names were drawn.  If you didn't get a copy for one reason or another, please email me directly & I will mail one out to you.  The first 2 bloggers who email me their mailing address at evonnecook@clotheslinequilts.com will receive these copies.

My very good friend Shirley showed me just a few weeks ago that my block Checkerboard Star was made into a quilt in the Block Tester's Gallery on page 90 of the magazine.  It is a bright festive holiday quilt created by Karlene Larson with Kaufman fabrics & named Peppermint Polka.  Go, look it up quickly, it really is cute.   Thanks, Shirley!

Got to go & get back to my sewing - it feels like free time!  But I wanted to wish you & yours all the best in the New Year 2013 !!  Take care & Be Happy !

So very much to be thankful for . . .

Yes, indeed, we all have so very much to be thankful for with the big Thanksgiving season right around the corner!  Mom always said, "if you think you have it bad, you don't have to look far before you find someone who has it a lot worse than you.  Then you forget about why you thought you had it so bad!"

I believe the very greatest thing that I am thankful for this year is - our crops!  Such blessings from above --

My block - Checkerboard Star
I am still excited about the new issue of Quiltmakers 100 Blocks; you should all have your copy by now.

With every issue Quiltmakers sends an awesome coffee mug with all the blocks on it to each of the designers, & best news of all, there are ways that you readers can win a mug also with comments & such.  I am adding this link for you because it's not too late for you to win a beautiful mug of Volume 6! And you can read all about the future plans for their magazines.     http://www.quiltmaker.com/blogs/quiltypleasures/2012/11/100-blocks-vol-6-shortcut/   Just go to this link & enter before Sunday evening at midnight!

I have 3 Quiltmaker's mugs now.  Aren't they neat!
I want to wish you all a very wonderful Happy Thanksgiving Day!  We are traveling for the holiday, so wish us good roads & winds.  See you when we return.

Quiltmaker's 100 Blocks! Hurray!

Checkerboard Star
It is my day to blog & show my Checkerboard Star!  It is on page 51 of the new publication, block #568.  I love this block & as events turn out - it's very patriotic for this special day - the day we learn who our president will be for the next 4 years.  Keep in mind that I don't have that information as I'm typing this!  I'm still in suspense.

I hope you like this new block as much as I do.  On Monday I posted a question to those who were reading my blog & asked anyone to guess which block could be mine.  Terry@aquiltingblog is the winner of a free issue of Quiltmaker 100 Blocks, Vol. 6 for correctly guessing the bottom right hand corner block on the cover; I'm so honored to be on the cover again & congratulations, Terry!

Blue/Brown Leesburg

Red/Brown Leesburg
I have been playing with many color variations for this block, especially this last grouping of Jo Morton's Leesburg & thought you'd be interested in seeing various colorations.  So I downloaded all the thumbprints of the fabrics from the Andover site, but was disappointed to see that some of the fabrics were missing from the site.  So I did the best I could.  I was really interested in doing the black/gold version because I just love it.  However, one of the most special blacks (the one with the brown/gold vines) was missing from the website, but I still like the black/gold the very best!

Black/Gold Leesburg

As Checkerboard Stars appears on page 51 of Quiltmaker's 100 Blocks, Vol. 6

I have some free issues of the magazine to give away to some lucky quilters; also some free fat quarters of Jo's fabrics.  If you are interested, please go to my website www.clotheslinequilts.com & sign up for the email newsletter or become a follower of my blog http://evonne-clotheslinequilts.blogspot.com.  Be sure & check back by Saturday to see if you are a winner, so I can get your mailing address.  You will have to leave me a comment here to let me know that you have either signed up for the newsletter or begun to follow my blog.  And, of course, I'd love to hear what you think of my Checkerboard Star!

Have fun blogging!  Evonne

Welcome to the Quiltmakers 100 Blocks Tour!

Happy May Basket Day!

Iowa Lily
I find that, as a designer, I look forward to the days that I can spend sewing a small project that is entirely different from anything I would be designing.  It's like having a day off from work!  That is how I felt working on my block - Iowa Lily - for Quiltmaker 100 Blocks magazine.  It is more flowery than normal for me, it's with fabrics I would normally not use, & it's got some applique.  So I have enjoyed this project immensely!

Barbara Mitchell daylilies
I named my block after the perennial daylilies I have all over my yard.  I love perennials that come up every year; I look forward to them every spring.  It's too early this year, but here are a few from my yard last summer.
Stella d'Oro daylilies
Anyway, back to the block!

The flowers are pieced first, then I open up the greenery at the bottom center of the flowers to insert the stems & applique them on.   My first block for the magazine is machine appliqued, then I did two more blocks from the same Jo Morton fabric lines (Crimson & Clover, Crimson Bouquet) & hand appliqued the stems on these.  It, too, was enjoyable.

I also wanted to show you how the blocks look with a couple of the border prints Jo has in this line.  They are just such bright & beautiful more clear colors.  It's like, let's add a little brightness to the drabness of Civil War reproductions. Don't get me wrong - I love reproductions.  Again it was very much fun to work with these fabrics.  I hope you enjoy them, too.!

I'll be giving away 2 copies of the 100 Blocks magazine, so don't forget to leave a comment at the bottom of this post.  And be sure to visit Quiltmaker's site  before Friday, May 4th to win more prizes.

For anyone who would like to win a bundle of these fabrics, go to my website www.clotheslinequilts.com  & sign up for my enewsletter.  Also, email me at evonnecook@clotheslinequilts.com
& I'll put your name in the hat.

Be sure to follow my blog to get a sneak peak of
new designs coming soon to spring market!

Quiltmakers 100 Blocks, Vol. 5

Volume 5 of Quiltmakers 100 Blocks may already be on the newsstands in your area!  And the blog tour begins on Monday - don't miss out on the chances to win free magazines & other prizes.  Go to www.quiltmaker.com/blogs/quiltypleasures to follow the fun!

My block is Iowa Lily on page 36; I'll be blogging on
Tuesday, May 1.  Happy May Basket Day!

It's such fun to go to fabric groupings for a block such as Iowa Lily.  It makes it so easy; you can choose different ones
from the grouping for parts of the block, then a different one for flowers, stems, leaves, etc.  I especially love to put
many, many fabrics into one block - makes it fun for me!
This time I used a fabric grouping that was a stretch for me - it's brighter & cheerier, although still in the Civil War era.

And, of course, there is a blog tour every time a new magazine comes out & this time, I'm ready.  Last time I did not have a blog & I really felt that I missed out.  So my day to blog is Tuesday, May 1!  You'll find all the information you need for the tour at www.quiltmaker.com/blogs/quiltypleasures

We'll be giving lots of prizes, copies of the magazine, & fun just around the corner.  So, get ready!!
