WILDFLOWER WOODS FABRIC COLLECTION

GOOD MORNING

NEW FABRIC COLLECTION  - ARRIVING SOON !!

This new collection is inspired by the works of Gene Stratton Porter, an environmentalist, naturalist, nature lover & photographer from the 1800's who was indeed ahead of her time.  Gene early recognized the importance of the preservation of the wild lands & beautiful wildlife of our country.

In this grouping you see light, wispy wildflowers waving in the wind, subtle greens, earthy browns, blacks & intricately detailed twirling vines, all reminiscent of the beautiful wildlife she so valiantly fought to conserve.  Added are shades of pinks & neutrals to enhance our quilt projects.

This collection is delivering to shops in the US soon!

And here is the  new Block of the Month quilt, written in nine sections & ready to begin BOTM projects after the first of the year!

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving at your house!

Time for a Little History Lesson!

Temperance Collection

My Temperance Blues Collection,

named for the Temperance Movement in U.S. history, was a social movement against the consumption of alcoholic beverages.  It began as early as the American Revolution in Connecticut, Virginia and New York.  People preached - and pledged - abstinence of alcohol throughout Europe and America for many reasons.

History shows that by the early 1800's, the average American over 15 years of age drank nearly seven gallons of alcohol a year (three times as much as we drink today)!
Alcohol abuse, primarily by men, wreaked daily havoc in families as women, with few legal rights, and many children to raise, were totally dependent on their husbands for support.

With the formation of the American Temperance Society early in 1830, the movement grew quickly throughout the states.  Maine, which was the first state to adopt actual temperance laws and guidelines, served as a model for other states.

Lightest sku's of the Collection
Medium Blues of the Collection
Temperance fountains were built in public places to provide safe drinking water in hopes of keeping people out of the saloons and away from consuming alcohol.  Concerns over alcohol consumption also gave way to other important social issues such as slavery, ill treatment of marginalized people, and in much later years, women's rights.
Darkest Blues of the Collection

Now, aren't you happy to have that little history lesson!  This collection was inspired by a little T-quilt from the mid-1800's which I so thoroughly have enjoyed owning.

The blues are represented from the light hues all the way to the very dark, rich indigo.  T is for Temperance Quilt has been designed for this collection.  Notice the upside-down T's on two corners of the quilt!

This line is currently being sold by P & B Textiles/Washington Street Studio and distributors.

Washington Street Studio Collection -
The St. Louis Collection!

This grouping features this beautiful floral in these three colorways!  Aren't they simply gorgeous and, of course, there are more than 20 coordinates and backgrounds available with them.

I have not seen this collection on P & B's site yet, but I'm sure they will be there soon with market just around the corner.  The fabric cards have been printed; Come to think of it, I have seen them in an email. . . maybe I can get them up here on the blog for you to get a sneak peek.  Let's see how that works!??

Nope, it bombed!  So, please stop by Booth 420 in St. Louis & take a look!

Below is the quilt pattern, The Secret Garden, designed to include all of the sku's of the collection. Patterns will be available from Clothesline Quilts as soon as the fabric is available this fall.

Christmas Remembered Collection is Selling Well!

With spring just now showing her lovely face in Iowa, I'm really not quite ready to think about Christmas again! But the Christmas Remembered collection is selling well & I have to remind you of it, especially if you will be heading to quilt market next week.

You can see the collection at the P & B/Washington Street Studio booth #420. And if you are not attending market go to the P & B website & view it there!  Or see it now on the opening page of my Clothesline Quilts site.

Do you love toile as much as I do!  I use them in the quilts & then again for the backing & pillow cases, dust ruffles & pillows.  Do a whole room with them for such a beautiful traditional vintage look in your home!

The prints are mostly available in green, black, creams & tans, in addition to red, of course!

Clothesline Quilts patterns will be finalized as soon as the fabric arrives; I want to actually sew the quilts with these fabrics before they are published.  The Christmas Baskets quilt is 70" x 87" with 9" blocks. And the Almost Amish Baskets quilt is smaller and features two sizes -19" square with 6" blocks and 27" square with 9" blocks.  Both sizes are in one pattern.

Shops & customers are welcome to keep in touch with me at 712-362-3022 about availability of patterns.  Or get on my list and I will automatically send them to you as soon as they are printed.

Vintage Solids by Washington Street Studio

Encampment
Sara Morgan's Vintage Solids are luscious & any time I want the look of a solid, but not totally solid, I look to the vintage solids.  They have what I call a mottled or blotchy look; looking like they've been tea dyed like we did so many years ago.

So, of course, I had to sew something with the black vintage, to show it off!  Love the black with yellow!

Here's a closeup of the Washington Street Studio fabrics.

More NEW for Market!!

Star Crossing

Star Crossing is quickly becoming one of my favorites!  With 5" checkerboard blocks quick to sew, it measures 47" square finished.

I always love swags with stars for a patriotic look.  Haven't done a patriotic design for a long time & it's so fun with browns rather than blues.

Hope you like it, too!

See us in Booth #2137 in Salt Lake City next weekend!

Auntie's Tablerunner
And I'll bet you can see Auntie's Tablerunner on your table soon
since it's so quick & easy!

To Market Once Again . . .

Yes, it is that time once again . . . spring market!  Off to Salt Lake City we go this year!  I sure hope that the weather is better out there than it is in Iowa. Rain, rain, rain, but worse than that, it is cold here!  The weatherman is even talking freezing temperatures for tonight!  Yikes!  Have to get out the old blankets & cover as much as possible, especially the rhubarb! A freeze will surely ruin the rhubarb for the season; what a shame that would be!

Back to market plans --- shops were asking for a new Table Cozee so I have a new one to show you today!  Table Cozee V has two designs, as all the Table Cozee patterns do.  It's nice that shops can sew two samples & package two different fabric kits from the same pattern!

Design 1 - Broken Dishes

     Design 2 - Lookout Mountain

I hope you like them as much as I enjoy bringing them to you!

Come see us in Booth #2137 on the end cap in Salt Lake!

We are looking forward to the trip west!

Flying Geese Fabrics look Great in 16 Blocks!

Here we have Little 16-Blocks!  Another quick little quilt such fun to plan & sew.  Of course, the planning is no problem when you just use all the Flying Geese fabric collection . . . and throw in a few favorites from the Friendship Ring collection, too!

Come see me in Houston . . . Washington Street Studio, Booth #754 !!

Remember the Friendship Blocks I was working on . . .

Back in September we traveled to Wisconsin for a long weekend in a cabin way back in the woods. Beautiful place.  So, of course, like many of you, I cannot just sit & do nothing.  So I worked on the Friendship Ring blocks from that collection.

Well, I'm happy to say that the quilt is done & will be on it's way to the booth in Houston this week!  Can't wait for you to see the quilting done by Bernie Gee; it is fabulous.

Don't you love the feathers in the open areas??

Ardco templates are available for hand piecing the blocks.  I think I have graduated to "slow quilting"  or what I like to call it "peaceful quilting" because I am having a great time with the hand piecing . . . something I never thought I would be interested in.  It was just too slow, but I am now enjoying the process, as they say.

You really must try it!  In fact just today I cut some pieces to try hand piecing a Sunburst block.  We shall see how that goes . . . 18 pieces each of 3 fabrics.

Wish me luck.

A Great Use of the Black & Yellows in Flying Geese Fabric Collection

I simply love yellow!!

And the yellows in the Flying Geese fabric collection are so sweet in this Little Pinwheels quilt!

See it in person in Booth #754 at fall market. Stop & see us there in the Washington Street Studio booth!

Patterns are available now!

Little Pink & Brown Baskets ready for market!

A couple weeks ago on Facebook I showed these little baskets I'd been sewing from the Friendship Ring fabric collection.   They were so much fun.

Now they have made their way into this little quilt, moved on to the quilter & now are ready for the market booth in Houston.  Yes, Houston market is just around the corner again!

I will be playing around in P & B's reproductions booth #754, Washington Street Studio!

Come & see lots more there including more quilts from the Friendship Ring & Flying Geese collections!

A Soldier's Quilt

Sharon & I spent the first three days home from market sewing a new Soldier's Quilt!  Yes, sometimes it is just great to sew & sew & sew!

Since the fabric came right before we left for market, we had to wait until returning home to really get into the yardage, cut & sew!
It was amazing how close the new fabric is to the old.  We had the old quilt from the 1800's right here to look at while we sewed new blocks!

What a thrill!  It's just unbelievable that the technology of today can accomplish that reproduction so perfectly.

The fabric should be hitting the shops soon.  And the pattern A Soldier's Quilt is all ready to go; it was written specifically for this fabric line.

Enjoy!!

Checkerboard Stars is ready for market!

Checkerboard Stars
58" x 74"
Another new design to showcase soon in Booth #1339 is our new Checkerboard Stars quilt.  Isn't it striking!

This block was published in Volume 6 of Quiltmaker's 100 Blocks magazine a few years ago.  For those who requested a quilt pattern with that favorite block -- here it is!

The quilt is 58" x 74" but could easily be made larger by simply increasing the size of the neat border print.  It is such a beautiful border print & would add a wonderful impact if cut much wider!  Thanks, Jo Morton, for that exquisite border print!

Hope you are all enjoying this beautiful spring weather!

NEW Shoofly Pie quilt coming soon!

Have you ever had the Shoofly Pie experience?  Not me, but I'd like to try it! Actually, second thought, I believe that Janet & I shared a piece when we were in Pennsylvania for the very first time! But I think I need another piece to really say I had the experience.  We can go to All Recipes.com to make it ourselves. Let's give it a try!

I do have the Shoofly Pie quilt experience though & I love how it turned out! Just wanted to show you the new design & let you know that the pattern will be ready for spring market.

So make a note now to see it in Booth #1339 in Minneapolis!  We'll be looking for you!

Vacation is Over - Back to Work!!

We're back from vacation & anxious to get moving along the countdown to May market!  Lots of new stuff just around the corner.

Sharon is finalizing a table runner featuring her Diamonds Are Forever block which was just in Volume 10 of Quiltmaker's 100 Blocks.  Isn't it gorgeous!  And the table runner is awesome; she's making two different fabric versions for the booth!  And the pattern will be ready for market.

We've also had requests to do something with the Checkerboard Stars block from Quiltmakers 100 Blocks, Volume 6, so you'll be seeing it soon in a quilt design.

The blocks for this magazine are all big ones - 12" square, so it's extra fun to work with them.  Although I have always preferred the small 5" size, I have had fun with this block.  That is what is so great about quilting . . . you can always add a new love!

Hope your winter is giving you lots of quilting & snuggling time with loved ones.  We've had extra cold weather, but little snow at this point; although March is not over yet . . . never know what March will bring to the Midwest.  Sending our sympathy to the Northeast quilters this winter with all their inches piling up.

Have a good week.  Bring on the sunshine!

NEW Courthouse Stars II

Courthouse Stars II
Happy Tuesday!

Hope your new year is heading in the right direction!

Many of my patterns deal with the small 5" blocks simply because they are my favorite.  However, from time to time, we have requests for the larger blocks.  This is what happened with our Courthouse Stars pattern.  So here it is in the 10" block size & we call it simply Courthouse Stars II.

So now you have a choice!
The new quilt is 64" x 84" and it is available now from Quilters Warehouse & our new distributor Quilt Woman.  And, of course, you can always order from me here at home by calling 712-362-3022.

I wanted to let you know though that I will be gone most of the month of February, so order now this week if you need Clothesline Quilts patterns for your spring shows & gatherings.

Again, orders will not be filled from my home during the month of February.  Please contact the distributors mentioned above for patterns if you need them before March 1.  Thanks so much & hope your winter is going well.  We have been pleasantly surprised with many very nice sunny days lately in January - quite unusual for Iowa this time of year.
