Christmas Remembered Collection is Selling Well!

With spring just now showing her lovely face in Iowa, I'm really not quite ready to think about Christmas again! But the Christmas Remembered collection is selling well & I have to remind you of it, especially if you will be heading to quilt market next week.

You can see the collection at the P & B/Washington Street Studio booth #420. And if you are not attending market go to the P & B website & view it there!  Or see it now on the opening page of my Clothesline Quilts site.

Do you love toile as much as I do!  I use them in the quilts & then again for the backing & pillow cases, dust ruffles & pillows.  Do a whole room with them for such a beautiful traditional vintage look in your home!

The prints are mostly available in green, black, creams & tans, in addition to red, of course!

Clothesline Quilts patterns will be finalized as soon as the fabric arrives; I want to actually sew the quilts with these fabrics before they are published.  The Christmas Baskets quilt is 70" x 87" with 9" blocks. And the Almost Amish Baskets quilt is smaller and features two sizes -19" square with 6" blocks and 27" square with 9" blocks.  Both sizes are in one pattern.

Star Crossing

Star Crossing is quickly becoming one of my favorites!  With 5" checkerboard blocks quick to sew, it measures 47" square finished.  

I always love swags with stars for a patriotic look.  Haven't done a patriotic design for a long time & it's so fun with browns rather than blues.

To Market Once Again . . .

Yes, it is that time once again . . . spring market!  Off to Salt Lake City we go this year!  I sure hope that the weather is better out there than it is in Iowa. Rain, rain, rain, but worse than that, it is cold here!  The weatherman is even talking freezing temperatures for tonight!  Yikes!  Have to get out the old blankets & cover as much as possible, especially the rhubarb! A freeze will surely ruin the rhubarb for the season; what a shame that would be!

Back to market plans --- shops were asking for a new Table Cozee so I have a new one to show you today!  Table Cozee V has two designs, as all the Table Cozee patterns do.  It's nice that shops can sew two samples & package two different fabric kits from the same pattern!

So Happy with the new Fabric Collection Manassas Junction!

This antique quilt just blew me away the first time I ever saw it!  The indigo & cheddar just drew me in.

So, of course, we have a brand new fabric collection based on this old quilt & it's showing at market next weekend in the Washington Street Studio Booth #754.

The collection features indigo with cheddar plus black & brick red separately with cheddar!

I am just having fun sewing up some of the strike-offs . . . I can't imagine how fun it is going to be to actually have the fabric to play with.

Booth #754 Washington Street Studio in Houston!

Remember the Friendship Blocks I was working on . . .

Back in September we traveled to Wisconsin for a long weekend in a cabin way back in the woods. Beautiful place.  So, of course, like many of you, I cannot just sit & do nothing.  So I worked on the Friendship Ring blocks from that collection.

Well, I'm happy to say that the quilt is done & will be on it's way to the booth in Houston this week!  Can't wait for you to see the quilting done by Bernie Gee; it is fabulous.

Ardco templates are available for hand piecing the blocks.  I think I have graduated to "slow quilting"  or what I like to call it "peaceful quilting" because I am having a great time with the hand piecing . . . something I never thought I would be interested in.  It was just too slow, but I am now enjoying the process, as they say.

You really must try it!  In fact just today I cut some pieces to try hand piecing a Sunburst block.  We shall see how that goes . . . 18 pieces each of 3 fabrics.

Little Pink & Brown Baskets ready for market!

A couple weeks ago on Facebook I showed these little baskets I'd been sewing from the Friendship Ring fabric collection.   They were so much fun.

Now they have made their way into this little quilt, moved on to the quilter & now are ready for the market booth in Houston.  Yes, Houston market is just around the corner again! 

I will be playing around in P & B's reproductions booth #754, Washington Street Studio!

Is Spring Market really over?!!

Market flew by so quickly & here we are 2 weeks past & still busy.   Took time to plant some tomatoes & peppers this morning quickly & with all the rain we've had, they should do good.  Some of the tomato plants already had blossoms!

You may have seen the market booth on facebook, but I really never got many good pictures.  We had two grandchildren graduating that weekend which really added to the time crunch of the whole weekend.  Many thanks to friends who manned the booth & took it all down; I am very thankful for friends like that!

Many good things always come from attending market & this market was no exception!  Two more of our quilts will be appearing in Quiltmania in the future! That is always exciting!  I love their magazine & their photography is fantastic! It's just a thrill to see the things they do with your quilts for their magazine! And I love visiting with the French ladies!

Our fabric lines drew a lot of attention from shop owners & market goers!  My yardage just arrived two days before we left for the show, so I barely had time to cut fat quarters to take along for the booth.  But we had them there, so buyers could feel the quality of the fabric & see the rich colorations!  You can see the whole line at P & B Textiles/Washington Street Studio !  Both Flying Geese & Friendship Ring are there to see!

A note from a friend this morning directed me to the website of Heirlooms by Ashton House.  This gal is from Adel, Iowa, & included nice comments & pictures of friends at market & our fabric.  With all the work that goes in to these market booths, it is always nice to be noticed.  Check her out; you may want to follow her blog!  I know I am!

A Soldier's Quilt

A Soldier's Quilt

Another reason to visit our booth at market is the new pattern "A Soldier's Quilt!"  This design comes from an 1860's flying geese quilt & don't forget, we have a whole line of reproduction fabrics for you in order to replicate it.

  

The antique quilt can be seen in Washington Street Studio's market booth #1334 & we'll be in Booth #1339 right across the aisle. 

We'll be displaying the new reproduction   "A Soldier's Quilt" which looks old and patterns will be available to take home with you or to order.  You can also order them from the distributors on the Clothesline Quilts website.

If you have time, you may want to check out the P & B website, but for sure, don't miss us on opening day, Friday, May 15, on the market floor.

Friendship Ring quilt

Yes, indeed, market is just around the corner now - this weekend in fact!   That's close in my book!

Just want to show you the Friendship Ring I finished while waiting for the fabric line to arrive. There is just something wonderful about this quilt - I don't know if it's the tranquility I feel when I look at it or maybe it's that every time I see it, I automatically think of the quilter back in the 1800's making her plan for this quilt.  And just how did she do it -- with simple hand drawn templates of cardboard.

Well, lucky for me, I had Pam's help at Ardco & now we have the quilter-friendly templates to make our quilt making much easier.  The quilt is ready to show off at market in Booth #1339 & the templates will be available there, also.  The fabric line will also be selling in Booth #1334 Washington Street Studio. Check it out first on the website.

Don't forget to look us up next Friday, the 15th, when the market floor opens!

Another new design to showcase soon in Booth #1339 is our new Checkerboard Stars quilt.  Isn't it striking!

This block was published in Volume 6 of Quiltmaker's 100 Blocks magazine a few years ago.  For those who requested a quilt pattern with that favorite block -- here it is!

The quilt is 58" x 74" but could easily be made larger by simply increasing the size of the neat border print.  It is such a beautiful border print & would add a wonderful impact if cut much wider!  Thanks, Jo Morton, for that exquisite border print!

     Have you ever had the Shoofly Pie experience?  Not me, but I'd like to try it! Actually, second thought, I believe that Janet & I shared a piece when we were in Pennsylvania for the very first time! But I think I need another piece to really say I had the experience.  We can go to All Recipes.com to make it ourselves. Let's give it a try!


     
     I do have the Shoofly Pie quilt experience though & I love how it turned out! Just wanted to show you the new design & let you know that the pattern will be ready for spring market.  


     So make a note now to see it in Booth #1339 in Minneapolis!  We'll be looking for you!

Post-Market Travel

Hello again!  Yes, I am alive & well.  Seems it takes me longer to regroup after a market now than it ever has in the past.

We had a wonderful trip from Pennsylvania through West Virginia, Virginia, Kentucky, and back through Indiana & Illinois to Iowa.  The scenery of West Virginia & Virginia is so very lush & green; it just feeds the wandering spirit.

We visited 4 different battlefields, which was my major reason for the traveling after market in Pittsburgh.  I enjoy a special bond with these places now since doing the Civil War Battle Series, and actually have some quilts named for them.  We walked the battlefields of the Wilderness, Chancellorsville, Spotsylvania, & Fredericksburg.  I could not begin to show you all the pictures, but I included a few.  It is all hallowed ground & mind-blowing to stand in some of the places where so many, many gave their lives for this country.  We were on the site of the Spotsylvania battlefield exactly 150

years after the battle - amazing!  And it got me right in the pit of my stomach.

We walked the area of the Bloody Angle

We visited the Shirley Plantation, home of General Lee's mother in Virginia.  It is such a beautiful & distinguished home right on the James River where the cool breezes flow throughout the house.  It takes you back into the time of masters & slaves on the plantations.  See the huge Willow Oak tree that is over 350 years old.

We traveled on through Richmond, where I wish we had more time to enjoy, on to Williamsburg to see one of the very first settlements in America.  The visitor's center in Williamsburg is a learning center in itself.  The little town has been revived to put you into the colonial mode building-by-building so you can get a real feel for what the town was like in the early 1700's.  And with your pass you can go inside the buildings & relive their way-of-life.

Oh, in the excitement of Civil War history, I almost forgot to tell you that Pittsburgh market was awesome; great to reconnect with friends in the quilting world.  Opportunities always abound at market & this spring was no exception.  Two of my quilts will be featured in Quiltmania - one this fall & another next spring.  Look for them in Quiltmania - such a beautifully printed magazine!  Actually each issue is more like a book than a magazine.  The design & printing of the quilts is beautiful.  If you have not seen an issue of Quiltmania, you really should find one to enjoy soon!

First Day Down !

First day is always "pick up brochure" day, it seems. Some are ready to order on the first day, but many want to ponder their buying decisions.  Then they come back to buy sometime before market's end.   That way we get to see them at least twice!

Here's our view just across the aisle  - pretty awesome!  Buttermilk Basin!  A beautiful booth!  And look at that red aisle carpet - that should keep all those little feet running & lively!


And look who came to visit - my dear friend Pam Buda from Heartspun Quilts .  I have to get over & see her booth & her new Marcus line!

Got to get going!  Another busy day ahead!
